Corporate and Community Social Investment
Seed of Hope
As part of our commitment to social-economic development, the Company contributes to the “Seed of Hope”, in Kwadukuza, on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast. We a long-standing relationship with the organisation and the community in which we operate. In an effort to reduce poverty and unemployment, our donations have assisted the community with education, feeding schemes, and establishing and sustaining vegetable gardens.
The Domino Foundation
We partnered with Domino Foundation for Mandela Day 2019. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation that works closely with families and households that live below the poverty line of R 534.00 per month, providing them with basic necessities and guidance. These families are often further impoverished due to a crisis such as the death of a breadwinner, a shack fire or job loss or as a result of a natural disaster such as floods, all beyond their control.
Starlite employees got together and filled buckets with the following items:
- baked beans
- tinned pilchards
- peanut butter
- rice
- toothpaste
- face cloths
- bath soap
- handwash
- wet wipes
- washing powder
The Domino Foundation works with these families to ensure long-term support by ensuring that they are educated or attend training to develop a skill, affording them the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty.
Enterprise Development
We grant loans to an organisation involved in procuring funds for the set-up of black owned businesses and other related enterprise development requirements, through the Company’s Enterprise Development initiative programme. The selected beneficiary is assisted by Starlite, to grow the business financially and achieve operational independence.
Corporate Social Investment
Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) is an integral driver of economic and social transformation in South Africa. Within the context of the Government’s BBBEE Strategy, and as part of our corporate governance commitment, we fully support the implementation and sustainability of BBBEE in the group.
Our current BBBEE Strategy is focused on aligning with the recent amendments to the Codes of Good BBBEE Practice. We are working closely with various external stakeholders to ensure that the requirements of the revised codes are addressed and compliance is achieved to the best of the organisation’s resources and ability.
